Movie Review – Elf

In case you didn’t read about my experience on Sunday afternoon, I went to see a movie with Ex and Morrie. Now they really didn’t want to see the movie I suggested, Elf, but I think they sort of agreed to see that movie just to be nice to me … you know, to minimize any weirdness I was feeling about them hanging out.

Now I suggested Elf based in part on a review I had read a few weeks ago, but mainly on Sister’s suggestion. She mentioned seeing it the previous week and couldn’t say enough about how much she enjoyed it.

Anyways, I did the usual frozen Mountain Dew and popcorn, but with a bit different twist … apparently when your ex-wife and life long bud hook up & still like you … they really try to be super nice about things … and in this case that meant …

Morrie bought my ticket for me … YES !!!

And Ex sprung for my frozen Mountain Dew and popcorn … YES !!!

Sweet, huh?

But you know what? … I’m glad it didn’t cost me a thing. Because I was incredibly disappointed. I was expecting a comedy, but this movie was not even a bunch of laughs. Everything nearly funny was in the previews … and the rest of the movie was non-funny stuff. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The only good redeeming qualities of the movie were that it has a nice touchy, feely Christmas spirit ending and that it was only 95 minutes long (20 minutes too long in my opinion … why? ’cause I ran out of popcorn at the 1 hour 15 minute mark.) It’s definitely no Christmas Vacation.

So as I was walking out of the movie, I thought to myself … “Geezuz, Sister must have been stoned when she saw it.” So I figured I’d asked her if she was … along with warning her of my pending non-flattering review …

In response, she e-mailed me the following:

I WAS SOBER AS A HORSE. MAYBE IT WAS THE FACT THAT I SAW IT THROUGH THE EYES OF A 7 YR OLD KID. SERIOUSLY THOUGH, I WAS IN HYSTERICS DURING THE ESCALATOR SCENE. I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU

  1. Tell me about it !! I saw Hottie’s post and then read Makenna’s use of the word mooch … and surprisingly … my brain changed the mooch to smooch and … well, we don’t need to go there … 🙂

Hey, Miss Daisy, will you go pick Hottie up off the floor … I’m pretty sure after reading this … his brain just totally locked up. LOL

  2. Coach Griswald and I are joining the Will Farell fan club as our New Year’s Resolution this year (so fug off). And I have always known Michael is innocent, so you all may want to join the club too. I may be on to somethin.

PS Hottie, now that you’ve posted, you’re even hotter.

  3. Nice to see you made your first post, Hottie. The previews on this movie looked funny, but after Amy’s review, I think that I will wait for it to come on HBO…and its not like anyone has offered to drive me to the theater, anywho! ;-P

Ready for bowling Suspects? I have come up with a theme song for us at the alley tonight… “Lets Give Them Something to Talk About”. Maybe Sister can burn that song on a CD to listen to tonight.

    CHEERS!

  4. Well, thats ANOTHER movie I’ll never want to see, I guess (that and Titanic).

Nice to mooch off your ex and her boyfriend. Ya can never mooch enough off of an ex,…

  5. Wooohoooo !! It’s nice to see you posting Hottie !

Yeah, yeah, yeah … it’s not that you’re glad I was catching a flick with Ex and Morrie … you were just glad that you were able to do your grocery shopping Sunday in peace without me stalking you ! 🙂

Both Sister and Coach (Sister’s hubby) denied having any munchies, though I think both of them are lying. Upon exiting the theatre, Sister had orange hand prints all over her and Coach was carrying an empty bag of Cheetos.

Clark: Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

Cousin Eddie: Naw, I’m doing just fine, Clark.

  6. It’s no surprise “Elf” didn’t measure up to “Christmas Vacation”…How do you top Randy Quaid wearing a black dickie under a white sweater…you can’t… period!! As for Sister’s state of mind while viewing the movie…you want to ask her how many “munchies” she had at the theater. That may help you determine if she invited “Mary Jane” along. Props to you for getting together with the Ex & Morrie. Okay people, be gentle, being that this is my virgin post.
