Movie Review – X2
Took me a while to get to it …. but I finally fit it into my incredibly boring life and caught a viewing of the new X-Men movie …. X2.
Went to a Friday night showing, which is very rare for me. I didn’t realize just how much Friday night at the movies was high school date night (yeah, whatever, so I had no dates in high school to learn such !! :P). It was pretty packed …… but I’m thinking that since it’s not the first weekend X2 was out …. it wouldn’t be too packed. I went with the popcorn/frozen pepsi combo choice at the concession stand …. free refills on both …. yeah …. and made my way into the stadium seating theatre ….. (side note ….. the meanest old lady ticket taker I have ever experienced was working that section of the theater) …… once inside the theater I had plenty of seats to choose from …….
So I picked a seat halfway up the rows and one seat in from the aisle so I could have TWO cup holders …. one for popcorn …. one for frozen pepsi ….. I felt like Jean Luc … so sweet ….. 🙂
But then ……
The theater starts filling up ….. with people !! Of all things !!!!!
It’s getting packed …..
And soon …. there aren’t many seats left …..
And that’s when I saw her …….
One of the largest women I have ever seen …..
I’m not saying this to be rude or catty or judgmental ……
But she wasn’t bigboned ….
This girl was large …..
And I saw her climbing the steps of the theater ……
And I knew what was going to happen …….
The empty aisle seat next to me is available …….
And it’s a good seat …..
And easily accessible for her …..
I was going to be trapped ….
Unable to sneak out stealthly for my free refills …..
So she steps on my row and whispers to me ……
Is this seat taken?
Duh, I’m not going to lie …..
I personally have a sort of odd feeling of bonding with anyone else who is comfortable in going to movies alone like me …..
So I smile and say …..
No, it’s not taken, it’s available ….. *smiling and nodding my head up and down while I remove my frozen pepsi from the extra cup holder I was scamming*
So she sits down …..
Oh well ……
She ended up being a cool movie seat neighbor …..
She let me out without any problem (well, that’s not quite true, but without too much problem) when I had to get my multiple refills of popcorn and frozen pepsi ……
And she was cracking me up with some of the talk she was smacking back at the screen ……
“Oh …. Wolverine …. Sweetie …. Don’t Do That.”
“Don’t Mess With My Boooooy ….. You go.”
It was hilarious.
And yeah …. it should tell you where this review is going when I’m writing this much about the concessions and my seat neighbor.
Soooooo …….. here goes …..
I’m not an X-Men fan in any sense of the word. I’ve never read the comic and know nothing about the storyline other than what I gained from the first movie. This was a first rate production, visually it was a nice view. And I could tell that they were trying to bring feeling and connections to each of the characters, but I just never felt connected with them ….. the storyline never grabbed me (ahhh, yeah, “storyline” is code for cute usher) …… I looked at my watch 45 minutes into the movie, at 1 hour and 15 minutes and at the 2 hour mark. That’s not good. Special effects were okay, but didn’t blow me away. You’d prolly get the same feeling from renting the dvd and viewing on a moderate sized television set. The new blue mutant was pretty kewl along with the transporter one. It was set up for another sequel with the ending, but it was still a true ending, which is good. (Not like the second Back to The Future movie that really didn’t end.)
I give it a 5 out of 10. My life is certainly not better nor more entertained after viewing it, but it let me kill a few hours on a Friday night. If you need some time to kill …. then it’s okay if you’re an X-Men fan …. but I’d advise doing it on a matinee ticket-price. If a guy took me to this flick …. he probably wouldn’t get to second base later unless he wowed me in some other ways. If you’re not an X-Men fan, I wouldn’t even recommend rental or pay-per-view.
