Friday Five for September 12, 2003

Wow !! Not great questions this week, but definitely better than many of late … at least in light of the stuff that’s going on in my life !! πŸ˜‰

1. Is the name you have now the same name that’s on your birth certificate? If not, what’s changed?

Yes it is. In fact, I expect that my birth certificate will always show the name I’m using until I get married, at which point my last name will change. (Yes, I’ll take that plunge.) I’m fortunate to live in a state where there’s a specific statute provided for changing one’s birth certificate upon having srs. In addition to changing the gender marker, the name also gets corrected along with the record sealed. So sweet. Unfortunately, I also live in a state where changing one’s name legally is a cumbersome, long, and very public process. More so than most other states. Which is causing me a problem … one to which I’ll figure out a solution I’m sure, but a problem nonetheless. πŸ™‚

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

Hehe … I think I’ve already mentioned it and how I arrived there … but my name upon changing legally will be Amelia Jill Preston. But I go by Amy or Aims or Bitch or Nice Ass …. πŸ™‚

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

Well … my boy name was after my father … who was after his father … who was …

It is kinda cool actually, we all have the same first name, just different middle names, and most middle names beginning with the same middle initial !! So though I wasn’t Joe Hairdy, IV … there were a bunch of Joe Hairdy’s in my direct lineage … even though it’s down to just my dad and I left … I had totally planned on continuing the tradition if I had a son and already had picked out his Initial Consistent middle name … but, alas, such shall not be needed. Anyway, growing up they had to figure out a way to distinguish all the Joe’s at family gatherings, so I was and still remain either Joey or my initials … JT. My mom and dad said that my name was the only name they had picked out … they didn’t have any other names for a boy, and no names for a girl.

Now my name now … we’ve already discussed. Singer seems to find a preference in my name being Gina. A reference to Martin’s girlfriend in the Martin Lawrence television show and allows Singer to toss out a frequent line …. “Heyyyy Gina !“. My mom, though not a fan of Amy (the name or the person for that matter !!) … has mentioned a couple of times that she would have preferred either Sarah or Rebecca, with me having a middle name of Marie. All cute names, but I’m comfortable as named now. πŸ™‚

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

Geez, I don’t know. I’m sure there are … some names are just so … UGH !! I think … “I feel so sorry for you !! What were your parents thinking??” Though of course, I’d never say that.

I’m not comfortable listing names I like or don’t like, because it could make it a bit easier to triangulate my Clark Kent identity and locatioooon. And it would be really stupid making up code names like I do to describe them, because you kinda need to actually refer to the real name to answer the question legitimately. It’ll just have to suffice that the names I have strong emotions for one way or the other, i.e. like or hate, are usually because of a history I have with them. Either good or bad.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn’t it?

Okay … check this out … it is sooooooooo kewl !!! I can’t believe it !! Now … I checked the names Joe and Amy, because that’s what I go by. And the analysis for Joseph or Amelia don’t really apply to me.

Now check out Joe’s analysis and Amy’s analysis as follows. Isn’t that wild how both of them seem to be sorta similar and very on-point for me in each given role !! πŸ™‚ They match in so many places … with each other and me !! !! So wild !! LOL Even on the health weaknesses.

(Disclaimer: For this analysis, I used my real boy name, though I replaced it with the Joe Hairdy moniker for posting.)

Here’s the analysis with my commentary:

First for Joe:

As Joe Hairdy, you have a natural interest in the welfare of your fellow man, and a desire to help and serve others in a humanitarian way.

Yuhp, yuhp.

You are responsible and generous, although somewhat scattering and disorganized at times.

Very true.

Any jobs requiring systematic and conscientious effort, or involving any form of drudgery, dismay you.

Totally accurate !

In your work, you would seek a position offering self-expression through contact with people, such as sales or teaching, or a position giving scope to your creative, artistic talents.

I think I even mentioned my dream job was as a teacher. I’ve taught classes before and even now and trying to land a job in the college level instructional arena.

You are good-natured and likeable, and people tend to confide in you and seek your advice in personal problems.

I try to be good natured. πŸ™‚

Others sense your sincere interest and desire to help, and you can always be counted on to see the bright side of any problem.

I think so, though others say I’m not looking at the bright side, I’m just in denial ! hehe

You enjoy making others happy and you never let your own problems “get you down” for any length of time, even though you do tend to worry too much at times.

I do try to make others happy. πŸ™‚

Your optimism can be a source of inspiration to others as well as yourself.

I don’t know if it’s inspiration or just amusement, maybe befuddlement !! lol

In close personal relationships you are usually thoughtful and considerate.

Apparently not thoughtful or considerate enough !!

However, your natural interest in others, coupled with your sympathetic reaction to problems, could draw you into emotional situations which may be difficult to get out of.

Ya think ?? LOL

Now for Amy:

Your first name of Amy has made you a friendly, approachable, and generous person.

Ahhh, again … I try and like to think people find me friendly and approachable.

Generally you are good-natured, though at times you can be blunt and sarcastic.

Hehe … true … true … and true !! πŸ™‚

As you are naturally talkative, you find it easy to meet and make friends with many people.

I’m a talker, no doubt, you should see my mobile phone bill. I find it easy to meet people, and make acquintances readily, but don’t move people to the friend status quickly.

This name inclines you to be sympathetic and generous to those in difficult or unfortunate circumstances.

This is probably true, though I don’t really think of it as such, I just do as needed.

You can be firm, positive, and independent in your own ideas and in reaching your own decisions, yet when it comes to taking action or following things through to completion, you often need encouragement.

Holy Smoly … Is this dead-on accurate or what ?? lol

You respond quickly to kind words or any appreciation shown you.

I respond to AND crave kind words.

There are artistic, creative abilities in this name that you could express through music or singing, or, in a practical way, through sewing or interior decorating.

I’m not sure on this one. I do have a kareoke routine where I do one song in boy (Whereever You Will Go, by The Calling) and then one song right after in girl (Everything to Me, by Michelle Branch)… and I change my appearance between the two … it’s amusing to me, but I have to believe is painful to hear. I so can’t carry a tune !! I’m finding more of an interest in interior design and I sew only because I need to at times.

You enjoy freedom from monotony and are stimulated by unexpected opportunities for meeting people, entertaining, or pursuing activities of a carefree nature.

More so Amy than Joe. I’m much more spontaneous than before.

In your work, you find it difficult to be neat and orderly.

That’s kinda interesting. As I’ve become Amy more and more in my day to day life, my office has gotten much more cluttered and messy. Very curious !! *pondering*

You rarely plan things ahead of time, or follow a routine.

Not the case at all. I plan a great deal out … contingency plans upon contingency plan … which allows me to handle the unexpected better than most handle the expected, at least that’s true in my mind !! πŸ™‚

And to this day … I do remain a rather routine, predictable person.

Emotion and feeling, the desire to be carefree, friendly, and happy, are the driving forces in your being, rather than shrewdness, ambition, and material success.

I’m not sure about this. I’m certainly not as material driven now, every job I’ve been considering is a pay cut … but I tend to think I’m still very shrewd and ambitious.

Check out the health issues too for both:

Joe – You could experience headaches, or problems with your teeth, ears, eyes, or sinuses. Health weaknesses relative to the functioning of the liver could appear.

Amy – You could experience headaches, or problems with your teeth, ears, eyes, or sinuses. Health weaknesses relative to the functioning of the liver could appear.

Not only are both the Health Weaknesses similar … but there’s an issue of liver concerns in my family history … so I get checked frequently.

No wonder Amy felt so right for me !!!

  1. I’m telling ya Si !! … Lucasfilms hasn’t rejected the idea of Star Wars – the gospels of Amy-wan Kenobi yet … I still have I shot … I can be a contenda !!! πŸ™‚ Seriously, it’s bound to be better than The Phantom Menace !! πŸ™‚

  2. Oh stacy, get off the stage and find your own bit, babe. For that matter, get you’re own commments section. This one is where we make fun of Amy, and people who name themselves after Lucasfilm rejected ideas.

    πŸ™‚

  3. What? Didn’t have “Yodette” in there list? How incomplete!

Curious. They both missed on a few, but both the attributes of my original given name and those of my chosen given name (taken name?) were uncanny. They nearly matched who I was and who I am. Each was quite different than the other. (The attributions of name I use on the internet were wildly off of the mark.)

  4. and furthermore:

“Your name of Slut has given you a generous nature. You will do your utmost to help others in need, despite inconvenience or even hardship to yourself. You are affectionate, and respond quickly to appreciation. As a child you were expressive. An imaginative, impressionable person, you could excel in the theatre as a dramatist or comedienne, and the enjoyment and appreciation of your audience would be your greatest inspiration. Fine as your nature is at times the power of your feelings is difficult to control as it unleashes itself through outbursts of temper. The name does not engender emotional stability; nor have you the system and order in your thinking always to finish what you start. Scattering of efforts interferes with success in your undertakings. “

  5. HAHAHA and I quote:

“The name of Sianna has created a congenial nature with the desire to associate in friendship and understanding both socially and in the business world. Peaceful and settled conditions appeal to you and you are naturally desirous of having the security of a home, where your life could follow a definite pattern, and where you would not have to make major decisions. You find it difficult to take a definite stand, partly because you lack confidence, and also because you dislike any issues which create dissension between people. Procrastination is a weakness of your nature, causing an inability always to complete your plans or to concentrate for long. You need to see a concept presented completely in detail before you can understand it, and if you cannot understand it, you come to your own conclusion and often fail to listen to and reason out another’s point of view. You resist being forced into change and could become almost impervious to new ideas. You desire refinement, understanding, and appreciation, yet sometimes your outward attitude does not reveal your innermost feelings, and thus you have never felt truly understood. ”

    uh, yeah, thats so me…..:P
