Once Again

Yeah … so once again my boob job has been adjourned.

Dr. Z has been working super great with me in accommodating my dorked up calendar …

And trying to pull off the time amongst my docket to have some uninterrupted time for my boob job … allowing for recovery and not having to change gender presentations in the middle of a trial/matter.

You see …

Real life isn’t always like television …

Yeah, I know … that’s something you never thought I’d say !! 🙂

Legal cases don’t get wrapped up in an hour.

And trials don’t get completed uninterrupted.

Or start when scheduled.

First of all, in some courts, my home court namely …

Trial dates are set in a “flying standby” manner.

The courts, based on experience, presume a certain number of cases will settle at the last minute (this is despite all sorts of rules that say you’re not supposed to settle them at the last minute).

So what they do is schedule several trials to start at the same time/same day.

For example, on Monday morning they may have 7 trials scheduled to begin. 4 criminal trials and 3 civil trials … usally, criminal trials get priority over civil trial and older cases get preference over more recent cases (a few things can effect that, but that’s the general rule).

So … on Monday morning, all 7 cases have to be prepared to go to trial … attorneys ready, witnesses subpoenaed and prepped, openings, closings, direct and cross-exams all set, blah, blah, blah …

And then you get there and find out whether or not your case isn’t going to go …

If it’s not, you come back weeks later and do the same ol’ thing.

Now of course, it’s not always completely unknown whether or not you’re case is going to go, attorneys talk to attorneys to let each other know if it’s likely or not we’re going to settle … but still … there’s an unknown until Monday morning when you get to court;

Or … say you finally start a trial … and the court has scheduled it for 3 days … but it’s not even close to being done in three days … then if it’s a bench trial, you get scheduled to continue the trial whenever they can fit you in … an afternoon here, a morning there …. next week some time, next month some time;

Or … you finally pick a jury, but you don’t start the trial for several weeks later.

And that’s not even addressing cases that are not even at the trial stage …

Still in preparation.

But I’ve got a few cases that are at the trial stage,

That just won’t phreaking finish.

I’m in court on Friday again,

Picking another jury,

On a case that has been set for trial two times previously,

While trying to finish up another one that’s dragging on with us getting a few hours here and there.

I’ve been upfront with Dr. Z in scheduling my surgery dates,

Letting him know what I think the odds are that we’ll be able to actually run it,

And letting him know in advance as soon as I do when there’s no way in hell that we are going to pull it off.

Anyways, this latest adjournment I had expected …

Which is why it’s always been listed as “tentative” on my countdown …

I would of had to have way too much good, lucky stuff go my way to make it happen.

But … the good news,

At least as far as I’m concerned,

Is that I’m incredibly confident the next date we have scheduled,

Will totally work.

Yay !! 🙂
