Movie Review – The Italian Job

Get your mind out of the gutter people ! Italian Job ?? I don’t think so !! Come on …. Hottie’s not Italian !! This is all about a movie review !! 🙂

So I had opportunity to view a preview showing of The Italian Job starring Marky Mark, Edward Norton and Charlize Theron. Donald Sutherland is also in the flick, though I’m not much of a fan of his at all. There was a 1969 film of the same name that starred Michael Caine with the same theft theme, but different plot.

The movie looked sorta interesting when I had seen the previews …. kind of an adventure, heist-type movie ….. with significant doses of action …. a dash of double crossing ….. all combined together for a principal theme of payback/revenge/whatever.

So …. ya ….. basically, my type of flick. 🙂 Though I’ve been horribly disappointed as of late in additions to this genre, and since I haven’t heard much buzz about the flick, I wasn’t expecting much at all.

Anyways, I went last Saturday evening and got there kinda late, the theater was pretty packed, with only seats waaaaay up front or a few on the main walk aisle available. I opted for the main walk aisle, though couldn’t even see the full screen with the stadium seating set-up in that particular theater.

Topic detour …..

“I was late getting to the movie because I sneaked in a round of golf … YES … first of the season ….. I played with a buddy of mine, from the boys tees and did moderately well … shot a 94 which I’m not going to gripe about for my first time out and in the rain and wind. I think I’ll keep playing from the white tees most of the time, especially when I play with boys.”

Return to main topic, please merge carefully.

So …. I had lousy seats, I was rushed, my popcorn was cold and I had low expectations of the movie. I don’t think I ever have walked out of a movie, but this would had a lot going against it before even starting.

Fortunately though, this flick was great !! It was exciting, sexy, funny, and simply ….. entertaining. I soooo didn’t expect it. Now, understand, it’s an action flick, so by definition that means ….. predictable plot, average acting and any statements meant to contain great meaning sounding kinda silly ….. but still …… I really enjoyed the flick. I laughed much, much more than I expected and I left happy with a stupid smile on my face.

Plus, there are some incredibly cool scenes with Mini Coopers. Each time they were in a scene I thought of Caitlin and what a sa-weet ride she has !!

Final rating – 7. I recommend it for all as far as a dvd and pay-per-view goes. If you like action flicks along the Lethal Weapon-vein (though with less vioooolence), then it’s definitely a matinee view. And if you’re thinking about it, I don’t think you’d regret paying full price for it if so desired, but I’d probably limit it to matinee myself.
