Movie Review – Matrix Revolutions

So … I really didn’t want to go to see this movie alone … which is odd … ’cause I usually don’t have any problem going to flicks solo. In fact … usually … I like it, but for some reason … I felt the need for company to see The Matrix – Revolutions.

But my usual movie going companiooon from days gone by … Shaft … was a no go … in fact, he actually owes me a movie … which I don’t expect to collect on for about … 18 years at least … he just doesn’t have the time. 🙁 He’s running himself ragged.

Singer and Hottie I don’t think ever go to movies, and even if they did, I know that Singer was busy helping her sister-in-law at a craft show, and though I think if I asked Hottie to take me, he would, it’s just something that would not be right doing to the poor boy, at least just yet. 😉

Ex was going to a movie with her mom and I was invited, but it was a chick flick … and I’m sorry, I’m just not totally there with the chick flicks yet, well, at least not when I could go see The Matrix … no matter how lame the reviews were of it.

Sister … I couldn’t imagine she’d have the free time available to go to a movie with managing her three boys, i.e. two sons and a husband. Besides, the odds of me convincing Sister to go someplace where beer isn’t sold aren’t that good.

So then I was going to call Miss Daisy, he’s a geek, and I thought maybe he’d go with … but then I remembered … what does one do when they can’t bum a ride from Sister all weekend? They go to Las Vegas for a couple days of drinking and gambling … which is exactly what he was doing … so scratch Miss Daisy.

And just when I was at a point of despair … out of the blue … Bro and Sister-In-Law came through and called me … they lined up Mom and Dad to watch the nephews and wanted to know if I could join them for a matinee …

Yay !!!! Go Bro !! So S-I-L !! 🙂

So I meet him and Sister-In-Law for a showing of Matrix – Revolutions. And Bro even had my ticket, popcorn and frozen Mountain Dew waiting for me when I got there. Sister-in-law picked some worthy seats … so I was all set to watch what I expected to be a terrible movie.

First of all, it really wasn’t The Matrix – Revolutions, it was The Matrix – Reloaded Part II, as not only did it pick up where Reloaded ended, but unless you saw Reloaded, you’d have no idea what in the heck the movie was all about.

That being said … I actually think Revolutions was better than Reloaded. The dialogue was better and it didn’t seem to slow to a crawl at times like Reloaded often did. The only groans in the theatre during Revolutions was when Neo and Trinity got all kissy-face and sentimental, which they did a couple of times … in fact, I sorta got the feel that there was a half-hearted effort to make the movie a love story … ugh !!! Morpheous is still fat in this one, apparently you eat well in Zion. We have a new Oracle because the actress that played the previous one passed away before Revolutions was completed … the new Oracle chain smokes and they spin a story on why she has a different “shell” … no biggie … it didn’t impact the movie at all. Very little of the movie takes place in The Matrix … which kinda bites … because The Matrix was kewl. But there was still plenty of actioooon outside of The Matrix which made up for it, but there really wasn’t good bullet-time fighting like in The Matrix or excitement like the freeway scene in Reloaded. The climax was a Superman-Lex Luther flying around fight, which personally I think should be left to superheroes wearing a cap … not alleged messiahs wearing a cap. Yes, there was a ton of symbolism in the movie … so much in fact that I noticed there was a ton of symbolism in the movie … ’cause usually that stuff just goes right over my head. I think every major religion was recognized along with a few minor deities.

I didn’t look at my watch once. So that’s a good thing. And I consumed significant quantities of popcorn. Another good thing.

The movie answered most questions about The Matrix … but not all of them. Though it wasn’t necessarily a satisfying end … it didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth. If you’ve seen the first two Matrix movies, then you certainly should see Revolutions and paying full price for the ticket isn’t a bad thing. If you haven’t seen any of the Matrix movies … then DON’T go see Revolutions as it won’t make any sense. If you feel the need to get up to speed on trilogies … wait until it’s out on dvd and rent all three for your own little Matrix marathon. Same thing if you saw The Matrix, but not Reloaded … don’t try to see Revolutions without seeing Reloaded.

Final summary … though the last two Matrix movies didn’t live up to my expectations or hopes, they were both better than that last two Star Wars movies (except for the last 20 minutes of Attack of The Clones, which totally rocked !!!) I give Revolutions a 5 out of 10.
