Deck Robyn is Pissed

I’ve been fired … by Deck Fatman nonetheless !!

For over 15 years … I have faithfully served the role as sidekick to Shaft in his construction endeavors … we’ve built several decks, moved gazillions sheets of heavy drywall, dodged falling lumber and built the largest fort you’ve ever seen for his son in their backyard (multi-story, power, water … yes, it violated local size and height zoning ordinances) …

So what did Shaft do this weekend ??

He snuck over to his parents and he built a deck without me …

Bastard ! 🙂

Now understand … when it comes to home repair/maintenance/construction projects … Shaft knows his stuff … he’s really good at it and should be doing it for a living …

And me … I don’t know which end of a hammer to hold … let alone how to nail something (ahhh … oh, forget it)

But we’ve been a good team …

Shaft directs … constructs … and I

Hand him nails, hold pieces of lumber while he is cutting them, and move things out of his way …

You know … basic sidekick stuff …

But nooooow … I’m not good enough to be his sidekick …

And what lame excuse did he toss out …

Oh dude, well, I really didn’t think about it … yeah, I was going to rough-in the deck and all … but we’re also going to go dirtbike riding, you know … stuff like that …

WE

So … if anyone needs a deck sidekick … I’m looking for work …

(Actually, I would have had no interest in going to help Shaft under the circumstances he described, and I find it incredibly amusing how Fatman has totally reassigned me in his brain already … but, that doesn’t mean I’m not going to make him pay for my abrupt firing !! 🙂 )

  1. Stacy – What’s really impressive is that Amy is willing to hang with me, all things considered. Only special people are willing to put up with with an overweight, under-mannered, playground bully redneck. BTW, your most recent work was great! Word of caution – any Shaft-like characters might hurt the “Dukes of Hazard” cable ratings.

  2. Shaft,
    it’s that athena-like modesty…
and she DID say she’s not mad…

but it is wonderful beyond words
how you’re not afraid to pick your
    best friend in public…

    btw,
i’ve been tempted to add a character
    named “Foley”
    to the cheesy little screenplays…

  3. OMG !! I totally forgot about when we sided my house !! We had these final few pieces to install way in the top peak of my house … we’re rigged this metal stand things and stacked them on one another … is was highly unstable … and the only way we could get the last pieces in place was if we stood up to do it … way up high … “You do it”, “No, you do it”, “No way, it was your idea”, “It’s your house”, “Damn”. Totally kewl time.

  4. Want the other half of the story, Stacy? The deck in question was a 4 1/2 hour drive from here. I left late Thursday night and came back late Sunday night. Drive distance and length of visit made for a no-brainer decision not to bother Amy with sidekick status. FYI, Deck Fatman took the assignment solo. There is no need to look for a new gig, Amy. You’re in on anything in this jurisdiction. BTW, thanks for totally underselling your contribution to the projects, A. Remember who put up the last piece of siding at the highest point of your house? You’re putting yourself in the toolgirl slot, not me. I’m an equal opportunity Fatman.

  5. Jinkees … I’m not angry in the least … I’d have gladly helped with the deck, but I’m not about to go dirtbike riding and the such … there’s nothing wrong with it … it’s just so not me !! 🙂

Ahhh … before you enlist Em’s help in building a deck, you might wanna consult Shaft for a reference, ’cause if she’s anything like me … she really is pretty useless in such projects !! I’m not ashamed to admit that !! Though I am always good for some slapstick comic relief !lol 🙂

  6. apparently you recognize that things have changed,
    and you’re not really angry,
just taking advantage of the situation
    in true lawyer fashion…
    you know,
i’m not playing with a full deck, myself,
so maybe stacy and emily should add a deck
to the fifties-retro house stacy can’t
afford to live in by herself…
    hmmm…
