The Final Three

A week later,

And I’m still stinging from Chris’ departure.

There isn’t anyone left that I’m anxious to see perform.

Bummer.

Tonight’s performances,

Really didn’t do anything to improve my American Idol-tude.

Granted,

All of them can sing,

But none of them have that spark in my opinion.

I know this won’t be a popular assertion,

However I’m of the opinion that of the three Idols remaining,

The only one that can have a long-term, star/psuedo-star career …

Is Katharine.

Which is really a shame,

Because she really bugs me.

Anyways,

As far as the performances from last night went:

Elliot – His first song, Open Arms, seemed a little off. He actually started it off solid, strong in fact, but then he went all weak, it was as if he got hit with a bit of the nerves. I felt like he played it safe. He totally got screwed with the Judge’s pick song … since Paula picked his song and she’s clueless … he did What I Would Not Do For Love, which should have been retitled to What Song I Would Not Do If I Wanted To Win American Idol. I was not entertained. His last song, his choice, I Believe To My Soul, was his best performance of the night, unfortunately it wasn’t a song that was going to connect with the average American Idol voter, actually, none of the songs he performed were. Elliot is in trouble.

Katharine – Like Elliot, Katharine’s first song, I Believe I Can Fly, started out strong, but she lost it in the middle and the end felt uncomfortably busy. And I do have to say, her Taylor-esque “wooooo” at the end caused a reaction in me reminiscent of one of my eating disorders. However, she lucked out in the Judge’s Pick, Simon chose her song, and when I first heard it … I laughed, but it turned out to be a perfect performance, Somewhere Over The Rainbow. She owed the song and might just get my vote to be the next American Idol. She came back down to reality with her last song, I Ain’t Got Nothing But The Blues. I was bored. I’m sorely tempted to re-watch last week’s episode of The Office-US.

Taylor – I was never a Bruce Springsteen fan (I seem to say “I was never a fill in the blank fan” a great deal, don’t I? ) and I actually liked Taylor’s version of Dancing In The Dark better than Bruce’s. I thought he did a very good job with this song. His Judge’s Pick song, by Randy, was You Are So Beautiful, which he brought home. I really like it. I was finding myself impressed with Taylor tonight. Unfortunately, his last song, Try A Little Tenderness, which he did fairly well, was followed by his “Soul Patrol” shout-out, which I’m so sick of hearing him mutter, that I’m thinking about doing a write-in protest ballot for William Hung instead of voting for Taylor.

Going Home Tonight – Poor song choice kills … and though I think he’s a better singer than Katharine, I don’t think Elliot formed any connections last night when his performances … Elliot is going home. (Taylor is so safe it’s not funny.)

Next American Idol – I’m predicting that Taylor and Katharine are going to be in the finals, and unlike last year with Bo and Carrie, when I’d have been happy with either of them being my American Idol, this time around, I really don’t want either Taylor or Katharine to be the winner. After all is said and done, I do find that personality-wise, I like Taylor gobs more than Katharine, however talent-wise, I think Katharine is a better singer. I’m not sure who I’m going to vote for next week, I’ll wait and see how they do and what they say, then decide from there; however, from a pure prediction standpoint, I’m saying Katharine will win. Why ??? Because oddly, here in the States, Idol winners are usually the girls. (Ruben-who? was a fluke, I still think there was a conspiracy going on there, and Clay’s a girl, so my theory stands !!! :))
