Movie Review – Chicago

I suppose most of us have heard the hype …… all the wonderful comments and reviews of Chicago ….. well, apparently I don’t have enough estrogen in my system yet (ahhh, not true ….. last blood tests put me solidly at the high end of the normal range for females). Actually, let’s be real …… regardless of whether or not I’m in boy or girl mode ….. I still tend to prefer action …. adventure …. science fiction ….. mystery …… suspense movies much more than dramas or musicals. That said ….. though I was not “overwhelmed” with the movie, I did find it rather entertaining and I didn’t check my watch even once. I thought the acting was great ….. Renee Zellweger rules …… Catherine Zeta Jones was comfortably adequate and Richard Gere ….. who normally I’m not a fan of at all (though he rocked in Primal Fear), gave an excellent performance ….. Zellweger and Zeta Jones can sing quite well (if it was really them whose voices were dubbed), but Gere was pretty weak on the singing side ….. the choreography was exciting to watch …… nice soft comedy elements placed throughout and the plot served its purpose nicely ….. a little too much musical and singing though for me to put it on my Must See list …… nonetheless, for my final analysis ….. unless you have a home theatre, treat yourself to a matinee viewing of the show ……. a nice sound system for the songs and the big screen to appreciate the movements and costumes certainly justify the cost of the reduced price early showing ticket …… and All That Jazz !!
