The Law Offices of Moose and Squirrel will cease to exist on March 31, 2004.<\/p>\n
Maybe sooner, depending on the effective date of my name change.<\/p>\n
I hated that part of our firm meeting the other night …<\/p>\n
Where we decided what to do about the firm name.<\/p>\n
I put a lotta sweat into the place …<\/p>\n
And it’s really hard on me being removed from the picture,<\/p>\n
Even if removal is my choice.
\n
\nThe Others have certainly made it clear …<\/p>\n
They support me, welcome me, and wouldn’t have a problem if I stayed here as Amy …<\/p>\n
Moose and Squirrel continued.<\/p>\n
But the reality logistics of it …<\/p>\n
Would just call way too much attention to myself if I did such.<\/p>\n
If we change the firm name to include my new last name … then that would highlight my change in my professional settings.<\/p>\n
If I kept my same last name … I could stay a part of the firm name longer … but that would make my change more prominent in my personal settings.<\/p>\n
And for one of the first times in my life … I’m putting my personal life over my professional life.<\/p>\n
Personal satisfaction over professional satisfaction.<\/p>\n
Now of course, it was said that if I chose to stay around …<\/p>\n
We could always add my new last name to the new firm name at some point in the future …<\/p>\n
But again, the reality is … that won’t happen.<\/p>\n
Once separation has been made, even if only in firm name, momentum is set and it’d be hard to reunite.<\/p>\n
Besides, I’m sorry … history has given me an ego … it’d be difficult for me to go from having my name first on the list to last.<\/p>\n
Further, whether one will admit it or not, once you’re named, your investment in the firm becomes greater, your commitment more personal … you want it to succeed even more … because, well … it’s a greater reflection of you.<\/p>\n
And me being around unnamed … will just be in the way of The Others … as they take control in a more personally vested way.<\/p>\n
It’s not so much that I have made a choice in this part of my transition,<\/p>\n
But that the other choices I have made,<\/p>\n
Leave me with no choice to make here.<\/p>\n
I’ll be an unnamed member of The Law Offices of Shaft, OBP and Spuddy …<\/p>\n
Until either my practice as Amy takes off or I pursue other options.<\/p>\n
