So … I did another Disclosure Friday.<\/p>\n
Honestly, I hadn’t forgotten about her, I just hadn’t gotten around to her, mainly because her ability to keep a secret is … shall we say, questionable?<\/p>\n
Sister. Yuhp. Sister.<\/p>\n
For those of you who weren’t around here for Star Wars – The gospels of Amy: gospel I<\/a>, Sister is not really my sister. She is a friend of Singer’s who started hanging out with Singer, Hottie, Shaft and I a few years ago during bwowling night ! Sister is totally nice, sweet, understanding and caring. She’s funny, quick witted and though having the appearance of this mild mannered, petite sweet, attractive mother of 2, wife of 1 … she’s got the mouth of a sailor. And you just never have any clue what swear words or their derivatives she’ll combine and toss out …. the contradictioooon is hiliarious ! Anyways, Sister is Sister because of her compassion, ability to know what’s wrong without having to talk about what’s wrong, and her skill in tendering great, practical advice. A while ago I was struggling with some issues and though blunt, she delicately gave me some wonderful sisterly advice. Afterwards I promptly informed her that I was going to adopt her as the sister I never had and she graciously accepted. Now, I still get the blunt talk with delicate advice, but I also am expected to pick up cigarettes for her when she runs out, fix her computer problems and, of course, always get her a Christmas present !! \ud83d\ude42 Sister: “I think Joe Hairdy will make a really cute girl, I’m so proud of him for having the courage to do this.<\/i>”<\/p>\n Dude behind counter at Taco Bell: “What?<\/i>”<\/p>\n Sister: “Yeah, isn’t it great. Joe’s having a sex change. I’m so happy for him. Wow … and Amy, it’s such a cute name !<\/i>”<\/p>\n Dude behind counter at Taco Bell: “Okay, whatever. What’s your order?<\/i>”<\/p>\n Someone in line who knows both of us but wasn’t part of the conversation: “Holy shit !! Did you just hear what Sister said about Joe?<\/i>”<\/p>\n Anyways, at this stage of the game, with my face and all :), though still trying to contain Disclosure, let’s phace it, I’m liviing on borrowed time on that front. So the risk of telling Sister is much less than it was before.<\/p>\n Plus … she knows Singer knows, she knows Hottie knows, she knows Shaft knows. And she knows she doesn’t. And she wants to know !!! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n Totally understandable.<\/p>\n And of course, she deserves to know and I want to tell her.<\/p>\n So we’ve been trying to coordinate a time to talk for the last week. Unfortunately it has been very difficult.<\/p>\n So finally today, late this afternoon, we just said screw it and I met her outside her office building under the guise of her taking a smoke break. As typical of late with my Disclosures, I put about 14 seconds of thought into what I was going to tell her. But I was confident that was more than sufficient !! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n So a 70 minute smoke break later … she went back into work with complete knowledge and information.<\/p>\n Totally easy to talk to about it, totally kewl with it, totally supportive throughout.<\/p>\n I fully expected that she would be. I wasn’t the least bit concerned about her reaction when telling her.<\/p>\n She said repeatedly how proud she was of me to have the courage to do this, and how happy she was for me to pursue my happiness. She asked a few questions, but not many. She seemed pretty attuned to the nuances of the condition, so either this isn’t her first exposure to it or she’s just incredibly worldly … I’m going with the latter. She was familiar with Jenny’s book<\/a>, having read a review about it in People, and she volunteered references to that before I even mentioned it.<\/p>\n And she wants me to stick around here. Yay !<\/p>\n Oh yeah, and she had lots of questions about my face !! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n We could have talked for hours more, no question about it, but a smoke break really shouldn’t last more than 1 hour and 10 minutes … so we had to part.<\/p>\n And another Disclosure was complete. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n Sister totally rocks !<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" So … I did another Disclosure Friday.
