Plopped myself in my car …<\/p>\n
Drove circles and circles working my way outta the structure …<\/p>\n
Flashed my card over the card reader thingie …<\/p>\n
Turned left … right …<\/p>\n
Instead of left … left.<\/p>\n
The right turn took me back towards<\/p>\n
Downtown.<\/p>\n
Past the bars and the walking route I used to take …<\/p>\n
Just five years ago.<\/p>\n
And there were people …<\/p>\n
Doing what I used to do five years ago.<\/p>\n
Walking in groups, walking as couples, laughing … looking forward to the night.<\/p>\n
And that got me thinking …

\nJust how much has changed …<\/p>\n
In these last five years.<\/p>\n
Many people I used to hang out with five years ago … are not even around any more.<\/p>\n
I was married,<\/p>\n
Hottie was married.<\/p>\n
Shaft was my best bud, but we hadn’t even begun thinking about starting our own firm.<\/p>\n
There were two other people in the world … with the name Joe Hairdy … my namesakes … soon … only my Dad will remain.<\/p>\n
My paternal grandparents were both alive.<\/p>\n
Everyone in my immediate family was healthy.<\/p>\n
No one had any clue I was a transsexual.<\/p>\n
I only suspected it.<\/p>\n
I was flush with boy testosterone …<\/p>\n
And I didn’t know the difference between mascara and eyeliner.<\/p>\n
I can only imagine in another five years …<\/p>\n
Things will be completely different …<\/p>\n
Totally changed …<\/p>\n
Again.<\/p>\n
