And I think I mentioned …<\/p>\n
I’ve applied for a job recently …<\/p>\n
And I’ve been ask more than once,<\/p>\n
“Did you apply as Joe Hairdy or Amy?<\/i>”<\/p>\n
I thought I mentioned I applied as Joe Hairdy, but maybe I didn’t, or maybe I never mentioned I applied for the job … but anyways, here’s my approach in applying for this job …

\nTo begin with … the following are important to keep in mind:<\/p>\n
The job for which I applied<\/b> … I’m totally qualified. Which gives me some confidence for attempting this little experiment.<\/p>\n
The employer has made a big deal of being “non-discriminatory in transgender hiring”<\/b> … And I think I’d be an attractive candidate. They could be feeling all good about themselves for hiring a T, while at time same time, since not only am I qualified, but I blend well, they could minimize the risk of having the sincerity of their commitment to being T non-discriminatory tested, I’d be the fair skinned, black newsanchor.<\/p>\n
I don’t care<\/b> … again, this probably gives me confidence for attempting this little experiment.<\/p>\n
So here’s how I’m attacking<\/i> this (such harsh, war-like words coming from you Aims) … I hope I get to give most of it a shot, but who knows, I’ll keep you informed regardless.<\/p>\n
I applied as Joe Hairdy.<\/p>\n
If I get the first interview, I’ll arrive as Joe Hairdy and …<\/p>\n
At some point, disclose that I’m a transsexual.<\/p>\n
And that however they want to handle the process from there, is fine with me …<\/p>\n
I’ll tell them …<\/p>\n
They can choose not to bring me back for a second interview, that’s the easiest option, of which I’d totally understand, or …<\/p>\n
They can choose to bring me back for another interview, for which I’d be more than happy to arrive in my female presentation, as I know they want to see my female presentation at some point if they wanted to further consider me for the job.<\/p>\n
If after that, I was fortunate enough to be extended a job offer, I’d be glad to work from Day 1 in my female presentation, as I intend to go fulltime imminently, or …<\/p>\n
If for some reason they’d prefer that I work for a few months in my male presentation, I’d be fine with that too.<\/p>\n
Why go with this approach?<\/i> Why not just interview from day one as Amy? ’cause my license and credentials are all in Joe Hairdy’s name … I’d be screened out before I even got a first interview.<\/p>\n
So, why not disclose in a cover letter?<\/i> Well, I’m sure that would at least get me the first interview, I can’t imagine with knowledge they wouldn’t at least give that courtesy to a T in light of their policy, but … for the sake of some privacy, though which is becoming less and less of an issue as more and more people know, I’d prefer not to put out something in writing that could find it’s way faxed to people back in my local courts at this time.<\/p>\n
Oh well, we’ll see how it goes … I hope I at least get the first interview … I’d like to see their reactiooon … but actually getting the gig would be things working out way too nice (I’d get to do a job I’d love, it’s pretty much a 9:00 – 5:00 job with some “on-call” shifts, and I wouldn’t have to take much more than a requisite 33% cut in pay for being female.) \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
