I did a telephone Disclosure the other day.<\/p>\n
Weird.<\/p>\n
I hadn’t done any telephone Disclosures before …<\/p>\n
As my preferred Disclosure method of choice is face-to-face,<\/p>\n
But …<\/p>\n
That’s not always possible,<\/p>\n
So I figured,<\/p>\n
Hey, I’m in the mood for some practice,<\/p>\n
As I’ve got a couple of difficult phone Disclosures I have to do yet this week,<\/p>\n
So called up a friend from my past …<\/p>\n
To tell him my function.<\/p>\n
Now he’s a guy that I do consider a friend …<\/p>\n
And trust implicitly,<\/p>\n
Despite the fact that we haven’t seen each other or talked to one another in years (minor correction on that point, we did exchange a brief “hi<\/i>” in passing as we encountered one another in some offices one day, and he did see me one day while out and about – it’s just that he didn’t recognize me. ;))<\/p>\n
Anyways …

\nSo I cwalled him,<\/p>\n
And we did the brief moments of “gawd, it’s great to hear from you, how are you doing<\/i>” exchange-thing,<\/p>\n
Though eventually we got down to business …<\/p>\n
“So Joe, what’s up?<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Need to talk with you about something.<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Shoot.<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Is your office door closed?<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Yes.<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Are you sitting down?<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Yuhp, I’m sitting down.<\/i>”<\/p>\n
“Okay then … well here’s the scoop …<\/i>”<\/p>\n
I then jumped into an incredibly abbreviated version of my most basic Disclosure discussion.<\/p>\n
Pretty much just covered the highlights:<\/p>\n
I’m a transsexual, distinquished it from being a transvestite, didn’t address any confusion about how transsexualism differs from being gay, gave a quick rundown of how I got to this point and what I’m doing, then asked him to respect my privacy and not share the information just yet.<\/p>\n
That was that,<\/p>\n
Maybe 5 minutes.<\/p>\n
He expressed repeatedly appreciation for me calling him to tell him,<\/p>\n
Said of course he’d keep it confidential (he will too, he’s a vault, almost like Tiger),<\/p>\n
That he’s glad I’m doing something to make the rest of my life satisfying,<\/p>\n
And that he can’t imagine how hard it was for me to make this phone call to him.<\/p>\n
We then ended the phone conversation.<\/p>\n
Now it was really great to talk with him,<\/p>\n
He’s a wonderful person.<\/p>\n
And I’m glad I was able to tell him personally,<\/p>\n
Even though it wasn’t necessarily face to face.<\/p>\n
But I have to say …<\/p>\n
This phone Disclosure really wasn’t satisfying.<\/p>\n
As there is no way to gauge a reaction when you’re speaking with another attorney who is trained to react to any sort of news in a calm, non-reactive manner while saying … “okay, thank you for telling me.<\/i>” (I taught him that technique by the way ! :))<\/p>\n
Though I do know his personality,<\/p>\n
So I know how I would expect him to react …<\/p>\n
And I can use that to reconcile how our conversation did develop.<\/p>\n
Now when I do that …<\/p>\n
I’m left with two possibilities:<\/p>\n
Either he had some huge pressures and distractions at work whereas receiving the news that a friend of yours is having a sex change doesn’t even register because he’s still concentrating on work krap …<\/p>\n
Or,<\/p>\n
He already knew.<\/p>\n
It doesn’t matter either way,<\/p>\n
He’s trustworthy regardless …<\/p>\n
And I wanted him to know.<\/p>\n
Yet,<\/p>\n
If I was a betting woman,<\/p>\n
Which I am,<\/p>\n
