A Little Bit Country …

Is too much country in my mind.

Yes,

I’ll admit it.

I just don’t like country music.

It’s like Nascar and slot machines …

I just don’t get it.

So understand,

My opinion that last night’s Idol was hideously lame,

Is most likely biased.

But I really found last night’s Idol lacking in entertainment value.

Paula was drunk again,

Simon and Ryan were bitch slapping each other with insults again,

And …

Everyone picked incredibly poor songs last night,

With the one exception mentioned below:

Taylor – You know, I thought he did good tonight, he wasn’t jumping all around and the song sounded okay. Tonight was my favorite night of Taylor.

Mandisa – Second week in a row of a bad song choice. Not good girl. You’re better than that.

Elliot – He sang Tomorrow Never Comes … it sorta felt like it.

Paris – I honestly never thought there would be a song that kicked Paris’ butt, yet this one did. I was stunned.

Kellie – Terribly song choice. Incredibly bad. And this is her genre, so she should have dominated. On the positive side though, she performed well.

Ace – Holy krap. I actually liked Ace’s performance … fairly boring, but compared to the others, it wasn’t half bad.

Chris – Such a yummy voice, but such a boring song. Zzzzzzz

Katherine – Katharine was tonight’s star in my mind. It was the first time I really like Katharine. Maybe it was because she didn’t do a real country song, but a soul country song. I can tolerate soul country and rock country. Plus she performed it very well, too. Almost a bit of Shania Twain ’tude. I liked it. I liked it alot.

Bucky – As the other country singer in the competition, he was expected to do well …. and he did. He slurs too much still, but it was definitely his best performance.

From first to worst: Katharine, Bucky, Ace, Taylor, Chris, Kellie, Elliot, Mandisa, Paris

Bottom Three: Tough call this week, because someone good is going to go … honestly, I think the bottom three based on talent should be Kellie, Ace and Bucky, with either Bucky or Kellie leaving tonight. And you know how hard that is for me to say, considering my support for Kellie. But I think Kellie will still be safe for a while yet, meaning that someone with talent is going to be in the bottom three. My bottom instead is going to be a process of elimination … Chris and Bucky have the rocker and country vote, Taylor is totally safe for now. Ace and Elliot are at risk. Kellie is safe. The rest of the girls are at risk. Paris probably gets the votes that were going to Lisa who got kicked off last week, though she’s going to share some with Katharine because Katharine gets whatever home support comes from California now. Mandisa is great, but she’s been weak two weeks now. I’ll have Elliot in the bottom three because he was worse than Ace this week. Paris was really bad so she’s in the bottom three. Katharine was better than Mandisa, so in the upset of upsets, Mandisa is in the bottom three instead of Katharine.

Leaving tonight: Hmmmmm … it really could be any of them. However, for the second week in a row, I’m going to predict Mandisa is going home. It feels like she’s losing some of her luster. I really hope I’m wrong, ’cause I do think it should be Paris.

Sorry for the short review. I’m soooooo late for bowling. Back in a few hours.

  1. Hi Aims,

No 24 Report this week? I figured with Logan being outed as not just a weasel but a traitor you would be all over that. Hope all is well, miss reading stuff! 🙂

  2. LOL Well … even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then, I just got lucky.

Let’s see how I do with this one … next week is Queen week on Idol, so I’m going to make my predictioooons without even hearing anyone:

Mandisa’s votes have to go somewhere, those voting for Mandisa tend to like the singers with legitimate skills, which means Kellie and Bucky won’t benefit from her demise. Kellie still gets her VFTW votes, plus those like me that for some gawdforsaken reason like her, so I don’t think she’ll be rock bottom yet, but Bucky, the vote redistribution is going to hurt him, he’ll be in the bottom three.

I think Chris and Taylor are safe regardless, so that leaves the pickings for the additional two from Kellie, Katharine, Paris, Ace & Elliot. You know, I think Kellie is still safe for another week too, so that narrows it down to Katharine, Paris, Ace & Elliot, and I’ll pick the two joining the bottom three based solely on predicted performance … Ace with his gonadless vocal range should be able to do a well chosen Queen song nicely, and though I don’t like him, he’s really showing a knack at his song choice, so I don’t think he’ll be in the bottom three. I think Paris is going to struggle with Queen, so I’m going to toss her in the the bottom three pile, meaning the last spot will be either Katharine or Elliot. Katharine is coming off a strong performance, but I think she’s going to have a harder time coming up with a good Queen song for her voice. Nonetheless, I think Katharine will get more of Mandisa’s votes than Elliot and Elliot will be in the bottom three again.

As far as songs each should sing … here are my suggestions:

Ace – You’re My Best Friend (sung to Ryan)
Taylor – Another One Bites The Dust (only because they actually say the word “hey” in the song quite a bit – it’s sooooo Taylor :))
    Chris – Fat Bottomed Girls
    Elliot – Killer Queen
Bucky – Need Your Loving Tonight
Kellie – Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Katharine – Don’t Stop Me Now
Paris – We Will Rock You

Chris could do We Will Rock You really well, but I think it’s too easy for him, he needs to stake his claim to the title this year before someone else has their Carrie Underwood – Alone moment. I struggled with Paris … there really isn’t a great song for her in my mind from the choices and since she’s so close to the edge, she needs to push the envelope and do the unexpected, hence We Will Rock You, she has the voice for it if she’s got the confidence.
Katharine has the voice to do a lesser known Queen song and own the place with showing off her skills. No one should really try Bohemian Rhapsody, but you just know someone will … actually, Ace might be able to do it with the right arrangement and I wouldn’t mind seeing Katharine give it a shot.

Anyways, after all is said and done … I’m thinking next week … Paris checks out.

  3. It was a bad night with some bad songs. You know I like Taylor, but he has been wearing thin lately and I was bored by his song choice last night. (However, last week his song choice was great. We saw Ray LaMontagne a few years ago at the the Austin City Limits music festival and he is a great, relative unknown. Taylor did him right.)

Marie and I had Mandisa, Paris, and Elliot in the bottom three but it’s a crap shoot. We’ve been Katharine fans for a while. I think she’s just (and I don’t use this word often) lovely. She was the best. Her voice is pretty and the camera loves her.

Okay…looking back on it, this whole reply to this point could have been, “I agree with Amy.”

On the 24 topic…the show officially lost me. I don’t know what to do…whether I’ll even watch again. The twist was just too preposterous. Logan? A mastermind of…anything? No. I cannot accept it.

Though I loved the Jack-kill where he got the guy with a silencer pressed into his back. It had the oh-so-personal touch of a knifing with the explosiveness of a shooting. Very nice, indeed.

    Knock’em down tonight, Amy.
