I got inundated with comment spam posts over the weekend,
Specifically,
1396 comments posted to AmyNews.com …
By a spammer hawking penis enlargement products.
I have comment spam protection software in place,
But the spammers are a relentless bunch,
And sometimes krap like that gets through.
I’m telling you this only because …
When I have to manually go through and delete such krap from my site,
I’m more than a little annoyed,
And sometimes get a little quick fingered on the delete button.
It has come to my attention that in the past,
I have accidentally deleted a real post from a viewer in the process.
If any of you notice that one of your comments has gone missing,
Please let me know.
I have all comments archived off-server so I can recover them and repost if necessary.
On those rare, rare, rare occasions where I feel people aren’t playing nice here …
And maybe a comment needs to be reconsidered,
I always try to contact via e-mail the comment’s author before ever considering deleting something or editing anything.
So if something you’ve posted isn’t here …
Please tell me because I want to fix it.

I read your site too, SIANNA – though you may not ALWAYS know I was there.
When surfing I very often use an anonymizer service (an anonymous proxy) when (1) I do not care to leave footprints or (2) I do not care to invite spyware and other crap back onto my personal computer.
But, so you’ll feel better, from now on I won’t go through any proxy to view your site – ok?

I like shaft, he actually visited my site once! Plus it would be scary if he went away, and Amy would be forced to start posting on a regular basis. Can you imagine that? Heavens would fall, mountains rend, and temples and shrouds would rive in despair if she STARTED POSTING EVERY DAY!

Completely unrelated, have you ever considered implementing a CAPTCHA test for comments? They’re the dynamically word-in-an-image test that you have to fill out when you buy tickets from Ticketmaster or sign up for accounts in most places.

You did delete one of my comments, several weeks ago, about my feeling it was wrong for others to disclose your past if you’re not comfortable with it, but I now know the reason…unless, of course, I crossed some editorial line! 🙂
