The last time the Boston Red Sox won a World Series …
Women didn’t even have the right to vote in the U.S.
(And before anyone starts to go knocking the U.S., stay down. Women could vote in the U.S. 24 years before women could vote in France, and women could run for office in the U.S. 172 years before a woman could hold elected office in Canada.)
It really has nothing to do with baseball …

finally…Go Sox…maybe the Cubbies now can get rid of their jinx!
As a life-long Red-Sox fan, I find myself surprisingly uninspired.
It’s not that I’m not happy, I’m just not jubilant in the way I always expected.
I suspect it’s that the sweep of the Cards — though completely un-expected beforehand — was anti-climatic when placed against the ALCS against the Evil Empire (queue Darth-Vader theme).
By the middle of the third game, some part of me (which I did need to whack down a bit) just knew we were going to win.
Also, I had to stay home to watch the game with the boys — so that meant a quiet night at home and just a bunch of cheering after the game.
On the other hand, I’ve now been to two Red-Sox playoff games in my life, and both of them ended with a David Ortiz walk-off home run.
Now those were jubilant celebrations.
One World Series win every 31,458 days, is that so bad? 🙂

well, considering that the third republic was signed into existence 80 years after our own constitution was ratified, a 24-year lag in french progressive politics might be excusable.
