Kenna Follow-up

I spoke with both Kenna and Greg today !!

Greg continues racking up his awesome brother score as he was at Kenna’s once again checking in on her …

He sounded great.

I know he relished the opportunity to help his sister,

But I also know he definitely was really missing his wife and two daughters …

So you could hear in his voice how rejuvenated he was just being home with them again ! 🙂

And as far as Kenna superstarrrrr goes …

She sounded just like the same ol’ Kenna we’ve always known …

With the spark back in her voice !

So obviously, she’s doing much, much better. Woo hoo !!!

In fact, she was feeling well enough to have on her schedule for the day a trip to CompUSA to see if there was anything that could be done about the Pepsi Syndrome incident with her computer.

Anyways,

About three hours after her surgery was completed,

And once she was resting for about 30 seconds …

I snapped a picture of her.

Well, I finally got the opportunity today (whatever, so I finally “remembered” today … picky, picky, picky) to ask her for permission to post it on my site …

Which she promptly granted me.

Of course …

You know it …

It totally annoys me to think I’d actually post someone else’s picture besides mine here,

But hey …

It’s Kenna,

And precedent has already been set with pics of her and Laura posted here earlier,

Besides I know there are plenty of interested parties hoping she’s doing well who wouldn’t mind seeing what she looked like right outta surgery. 🙂

So, if you’re interested in seeing one possible look after 9 hours of ffs surgery …

  1. Makenna Update

One day late last week Makenna woke up with her left cheek very badly swollen – went to the immediate medical care facility (IMCF) in our vicinity (pissed me off. It’s less than 90 seconds from my house, and she DIDN’T call me!) — the attending physician, after hearing her story and probing with fingers, was sure that the left cheek implant had come loose and was floating around somewhere to the northeast of the left corner of her mouth. ALSO said she had an infection there, so before doing anything, decided to address that with some Augmentin.

The next day the swelling went up as far as her left eye, and the weight of the swelling pulled the left side of her face down so she was looking like the beginnings of a Bell’s Palsey victim. I wrote an email and made a phone call to to Dr. Z, telling him waht I thought, and that I wanted an x-ray done.

The next day it was even worse, and Makenna went to the Immediate Care facility – again without me (bitch). The attending Physician THIS time (a different one) said she did NOT think the implants had moved – that both cheeks and orbital rims seemed to be in good shape, and that she [Makenna] should just wait for the antibiotic to kick in – that it was only a day and a half into the antibiotic regimen, and that it probably would take a little longer than that to kick in.

Well, that night something seems to have kicked in. The wound appears to have opened inside her mouth, and all the pus and fluid came pouring out – 1:30 in the morning Makenna is coughing, spitting and hawking white crap out of her mouth for an hour and a half, sloshing with disinfectant, and then spitting again. She said the only part that hurt was when she disinfected – I said that was good. Remember what your mother used to say when she put iodine or merthiolate on your scrapes and cuts? “If it’s stinging you, it’s KILLING the bat germs!

Then she evidently went back to bed and on to work the next day! (trooper!) Spoke to her that morning, and she had finally spoken to Dr Z – who said to follow the advice of the second attending physician at the IMCF.

Then last evening we WENT OUT TO DINNER! She looked so much better! The “droop” is gone completely, and the swelling is literaly 99% gone. And everything else looks SO much better.

She said she thinks she’s turned the corner, feeling and looking so much better.
When she went to work yesterday, she said one or two of the people there didn’t even RECOGNIZE her! I must say, it’s hard to find Old Boy in there – except, as far as I am concerned, in her eyes.

She’s doing ok. Howerer each of you has sent props, they have helped very much so far. Thank you for her.

  2. “…the really oogy bit is the drain…”

You’re right, skylark. It truly is “ooooooogy.” The cleaning and removal of the drain was without a doubt the worst part of the week for me. Yea, yea, it’s just blood plasma & all, but it was my sister’s! MY SISTER’S! Look what has happened to my poor SISTER!

At the same time, when Dr Z removed it, she didn’t even know or feel it (her report).

Now, I don’t have a problem with blood, or surgery, or cutting live flesh, or sewing stuff back up, or even resection (been there, done that).

HOWEVER, when it was done to my SISTER, it was like having it done to my wife, or my daughters. Hoo boy. “Feeling the pain” is nothing like “feeling somebody else’s,” that somebody else being someone you love. HOOOOO boy. (girl? what’s the proper protocol here?)

  3. I was lucky enough to have lunch with both Makenna and Greg yesterday (Monday). It was wonderful to see Makenna again. Greg was VERY protective and caring of his little sister and it was a treat to finally meet him in person.

    Get well soon hon.

    Love,

    Jenn

  4. What we go through is incredible. Makenna, hope you’re doing well.

Amy, your new outfit looks good. And you are beautiful. (said with obvious envy).

  5. Makenna….

Sorry I missed your call yesterday….You were right about what I was doing, albeit not abut who I was doing….I’lll try calling you this evening….Glad to hear your doing better and back to doing your thang….

    Laura

  6. Doesn’t look too bad. The compression bandages hide a lot of the bruising and swelling I’m sure.

Greg is a mensch. He is a really nice guy and he went above and beyond in the brother line in helping his sister.

Amy, you deserve a lot of praise also for all of the help you gave. Rumour has it that M is not the bestest of patients!

Talked with M yesterday and it was so wonderful to hear her perky voice (strained by the surgery) again.

    Jenn
