Before mp3s

I like music …

I like the lyrics … their meaning … their poetry.

I like the way the beat makes me feel … breathe … move.

And I listen to a lot of music … all types.

But every now and then …

A song burns such a connection with a point in my life, a place in time …

That as soon as I hear that song … I’m right back there.

That happened to me today …

And instead of being in my car heading down the street …

I was back in undergrad … reliving … a very cool time in my life. 🙂

Isn’t that what makes music so great?

Any one song can just so touch you.

Transport you … to another place.

And the song in question ??

Heat of the Moment – Asia.

And for a bit more of Amy-trivia … just off the top of my head, the following songs also send me tripping down memory lane: Crazy for You – Madonna; Truly, Madly, Deeply – Savage Garden; Pressure – Billy Joel; Do Waa Diddy – Manford Mann. (Aaaah, technically, I really don’t remember much associated with Do Waa Diddy … as it always seems to be belted out while under the influence of extreme quantities of alcohol … but whenever I hear the song … my body automatically responds with a smile.)

Yeah, I know … you’re saying the same thing Shaft said when I mentioned this list to him …

Geezuz Amy, you listen to that crap … you really have been a girl your entire life !

Duh !

  1. I never really got into The Beatles … they were probably a bit too legitimate of a musical group to capture my attention … I was more bubble gum pop rather than rock-n-roll … though the first ’45 I ever had … purchased in like 1972 at a grocery store in Tennessee was … I Wanna Hold Your Hand ! 🙂

    Are you a Beatles fan?
