So Short

I called my dad last night … just to say ‘hi’ … that’s the sort of thing we do.

And as soon as he answered the phone I could tell something was wrong …

What’s wrong Dad, are you okay?

I’m sad, I just got a call from Boss. Co-Worker 1 had a heart attack this afternoon and passed away. He was watching the Michigan game with his sons and it just happened. He had passed away before the ambulance even arrived. At least he didn’t suffer in pain long.

We talked some.

I know Co-Worker 1. Co-Worker 1 was one of my dad’s really good friends. He was 4 months younger than my dad. And when my dad’s condition worsened, Co-Worker 1 was the person that helped him from his car to his office everyday. My dad was numb. And I was numb for my dad.

Tomorrow is never guaranteed.

  1. i like to believe that people die for
    either of two reasons–

1.) they’ve finished their work here; they can’t get any better than they are and it’s time to go home…

2.) God takes them out before they can do any more damage to themselves or those around them

i’d guess that coworker one was among the former

can you think of a better way
    or place to die?

    watching Michigan with his kids?
he was already IN heaven, wasn’t he???

  2. One of the more unhappy experiences of growing older is saying your goodbyes to family and friends. The alternative isn’t worth a hoot, either.
